Roundabout Routines

Puzzled how to approach roundabouts, when and how to signal?  Below is your routine, and a picture taken from the Highway Code.

1. Check your mirrors

2. Signal (if required)

3. Choose your lane on approach

4. Slow down

5. Look for traffic coming from the right of the roundabout, and decide to wait and give way, or to go

EXAMPLES:

Turning left (first exit) - red car in picture:

Centre & Left mirror - Left signal - Left lane - Slow down - Look - After leaving exit, check your mirrors before building up speed.

Straight Ahead, or 2nd left - blue car in picture:

Centre & Left mirror - No signal - Left lane (unless markings indicate otherwise) - Slow down - Look - After passing exit before yours, check Left mirror - And if safe, Left Signal - After leaving exit, check your mirrors before building up speed.

Turning Right, or any junction after 12 O'clock - green car in picture:

Centre & Right mirror - Right signal - Right lane (unless markings indicate otherwise) - Slow down - Look - After passing exit before yours, check Left mirror - And if safe, Left Signal - After leaving exit, check your mirrors before building up speed.
